Is it safe? Can OpenCleaner delete photos I wanted?
Not without you confirming it three times, effectively. Selecting photos in a cluster only marks them as pending; you can restore any of them at any point. Finalizing shows you every pending photo one more time. And the actual deletion goes through iOS, which keeps photos in “Recently Deleted” for 30 days.
The first scan is slow. Why?
Photos stored in iCloud must be downloaded to your device before they can be analyzed (analysis is strictly on-device — that's the point). The first scan of a period does that download; later scans of the same period are much faster.
Why didn't two similar photos end up in the same group?
OpenCleaner only groups photos taken within seconds of each other that also look alike. When unsure, it deliberately keeps photos apart — a missed group costs you a few taps, a wrong group could cost you a photo. Details on the algorithm page.
Does it handle screenshots, videos, WhatsApp images…?
OpenCleaner currently focuses on photos (images in your library). Videos are not analyzed. If you'd like that to change, tell us on GitHub.
I paid on my iPhone. Do I pay again on my Mac?
No — it's a single universal purchase for iOS and macOS with the same Apple ID.
How do I request a refund?
Purchases go through Apple, so refunds do too: reportaproblem.apple.com.
